Common Attic Problems We Solve
Most attic issues come from the same hidden problems. We fix them all.
Uneven temperatures
Some rooms are always colder or hotter because heat is escaping through an under-performing attic.
Signs of damage or mold in the attic
Staining, mold, or damp insulation are warning signs of moisture and potential structural issues.
High energy bills
Your furnace or AC is working overtime to replace heat and cooling that’s lost through the roof.
Ice dams forming on the roof
Warm air from the house melts roof snow, which refreezes at the eaves and can cause leaks and damage.
Not up to Ontario Building Code
Your attic insulation is below current Ontario standards, leaving your home under-protected.
Air leaks & Gaps
Leaks and openings in the attic let in pests and outside air, further reducing comfort and efficiency.

- FAQS
Frequetly Asked Questions
Common signs are cold or hot rooms, uneven temperatures between floors, high energy bills, and seeing exposed joists or thin, uneven insulation when you look in the attic. If your insulation is below the top of the joists or looks patchy, it’s usually below current standards.
there isn’t one “best” product for every home. Blown-in cellulose and fiberglass are popular for open attics because they fill gaps well and offer good value, while spray foam is ideal where you need both insulation and air sealing in tight or complex areas. The right choice depends on your attic’s condition, budget, and goals—during your assessment we’ll recommend the best option for your home.
In our climate zone, many Ontario homes now target roughly R-50 to R-60 in the attic. For blown-in insulation, that usually means around 14–18 inches of material, depending on the product used.
During an assessment, we:
Measure your existing depth and estimate R-value
Check for bare or low spots
Recommend a “top-up” or full upgrade so your attic meets modern cold-climate guidelines
You don’t need to know the numbers—our job is to design a system that actually performs in Ontario winters.
In many cases we can safely add new insulation on top of dry, stable existing material, which saves cost and disruption. We’ll recommend removal if the old insulation is wet, moldy, contaminated (e.g., rodent activity), or badly compressed, because those issues can trap moisture or reduce performance.
Pricing depends on attic size, existing conditions, and whether we’re also doing air sealing or ventilation work, but most projects fall into a one-day job in the low-to-mid four-figure range. Because the attic is often the largest source of heat loss, upgrades can cut heating and cooling use significantly, and many homeowners recoup the cost over time through lower energy bills.
Insulation slows heat flow through the building materials
Air sealing stops warm indoor air from leaking into the attic through gaps and cracks (around hatches, pot lights, pipes, wiring, etc.)
In Ontario’s cold winters, warm, moist indoor air can move into the attic, cool down, and cause condensation, frost, and even mold if it can’t escape.
That’s why our upgrades usually include:
Targeted air sealing of major leaks
Adding or topping up insulation
Checking that ventilation is balanced
Treating the attic as a system gives far better results than just blowing in more insulation and hoping for the best.
Some homeowners do small attic projects themselves, but in Ontario’s climate a proper upgrade is more than just adding fluff:
You need to manage air sealing, ventilation, and moisture
Work is done in tight, dusty spaces—often around wiring, fans, and recessed lights
Safety clearances around chimneys and heat sources must be respected
A professional crew brings:
The right equipment for safe, even coverage
Knowledge of building science and local best practices
The ability to complete the work efficiently—usually in a single day
Documentation (photos, notes) so you know exactly what was done
For most homeowners, hiring a specialist means better performance, less risk, and less hassle.
