Toronto’s housing stock is old. The pre-war and early post-war homes in East York, Leaside, The Beaches, Riverdale and along the Danforth were built long before today’s insulation standards, and many still rely on the original thin, settled batts or loose fill in the attic. The 1950s-to-70s bungalows that fill Scarborough and North York are no different – decades of compression and a few attic renovations later, there often isn’t much R-value left up there.
When cold air rolls in off Lake Ontario, an under-insulated attic is the first place the heat escapes. You feel it as cold rooms over the garage, ice building up at the eaves, a furnace that never seems to catch up, and gas and hydro bills that climb every winter. Adding insulation back to a proper depth is one of the most direct ways to make an older Toronto home comfortable again.
We’re a local company – based in Markham at 2600 John St #208 and working right across Toronto. We handle brick semis and detached homes downtown, century houses in High Park and Roncesvalles, and post-war bungalows across the suburbs. Every home is different, so we start with a free in-person assessment: we get into the attic, measure what’s actually there, and tell you straight what your home needs. Book online or call (647) 507-4072.
Every project below is a real Toronto job — the problem, what the free inspection found (with photos), and how we fixed it.

If your attic still has usable insulation but it’s settled below where it should be, we add fresh material to bring it up to a proper R-50. It’s the fastest, most cost-effective fix for the thin attics common in Toronto’s older bungalows and semis – and the upgrade most likely to qualify for up to $1,250 back through Ontario’s home energy rebate program.
When old insulation is contaminated, water-stained, rodent-damaged or just spent, we remove it completely, air seal the attic floor, and re-insulate from scratch. Common in century homes where the attic hasn’t been touched in 40-plus years.
Many of Toronto’s brick semis and pre-war detached homes have little to no insulation inside the walls. We add insulation to exterior walls to cut drafts and even out the cold spots that make older houses uncomfortable in deep winter.
For tricky spots – rim joists, cathedral ceilings, additions and hard-to-reach cavities – spray foam seals and insulates in one step. Ideal for the renovated attics and finished spaces found throughout the city’s older neighbourhoods.
Heat escapes through every gap, pot light and top plate before it ever reaches the insulation. We seal those leaks first, so the insulation we install actually does its job and your furnace stops fighting a losing battle. Questions? Call (647) 507-4072.
